FAQ U!

Since so many of you are dying of curiosity, here’s some bits about me and writing.

First off: This blog contains MATURE, SEXUALLY EXPLICIT works of fiction. It is not intended for minors or the weak of heart.

On to the questions:

What are your favorite authors and inspirations?

Kurt Vonnegut, Robert Fulghum, Mark Twain, Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman. Not sure about the inspirations.

Do you have a particular writing process?

As in, how to I get down to making the words happen? I scroll Facebook and I scroll the news. Things I see make me think, and I always need to let the world know what I am thinking about, so I write about it.

Do you have a preferred word processor or text editor?

Not really. I just use what the websites offer. If their interface is too weird for me, I find a place with a better one. I do most of my writing online here at my blog and on Facebook. For stuff not written online, I just use Notepad.

Are there any other activities you enjoy?

I really enjoy reading. I can read all night and want more. I go through books like a tourist in Acapulco who drank the water goes through toilet paper. I love watching streaming movies, heavy duty action like Boondock Saints and John Wick, but also Star Wars, Princess Bride, and the occasional RomCom or fantasy movie. I also binge watch a lot of streaming tv series.

I really enjoy music. I've been into punk rock since 1974, when I was ten years old. I also love classic rock and the singer/songwriters. Favorite bands and performers include Ramones, Patti Smith, Dropkick Murphys, Sex Pistols, The Who, Queen, Elton John, James Taylor, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lighfoot, Harry Chapin. The list goes on and on.

I also paint a bit, but I really suck.

I have good friends who visit and we laugh and talk, watch movies, create art, play games and listen to music.

I play with my four dogs, cuddle my man, talk on the phone and on video chats.

I am severely disabled by arthritis pain and can't really get out of bed much, so I am limited in my activities, but I enjoy my life. It is not empty and pointless.

Why Are You Atheist?

I am sixty years old. I was raised by a single father, without religion, although I was baptized Catholic as an infant. My mother has always been a Christian believer, and during the year I lived with her, I attended church and Sunday school. Later, I received my sacraments in the Catholic church (communion, confession, confirmation) and became a practicing Catholic for part of my teen years. I fell away from that because as a teenager, I didn’t want to sit in church singing hymns.

As I got older, I explored multiple denominations of Christianity, read the Bible cover to cover multiple times, explored Buddhism, Wicca, Paganism, and myriad other religions, and eventually came to the strong understanding that people created religion because they fear death.

Well, after nearly dying when I was fifty years old, I realized, death comes to us all, and there’s really nothing else after we die. We die, we’re gone, that’s it.

I no longer fear, so I do not need fairy tales to give me comfort. I trust in science, reason, and intellect.
