Trump allies are plotting a third term — and no one’s stopping them.
Donald Trump isn’t waiting to test the limits of our republic — he’s already smashing them.
Reblog from Jim Heath inside:
While sitting in the Oval Office, President Donald J. Trump ordered the historic East Wing of the White House bulldozed — with no oversight or accountability. He’s threatened to sue his own Justice Department for $250 million — to claw back legal fees from the January 6 prosecutions he’s now erased from the record. He’s deploying the military without clear authorization, while allowing states to send their National Guard troops into others. He’s ordering killings in foreign waters without explanation — and no one is asking under what authority he acts as sole executioner.
His FBI has shut down more than 1,000 active investigations into the top domestic threat: white nationalism. He’s spent the year scrubbing the military of any recognition of Black or female achievements, restoring Confederate statues, and leaving Hitler’s Mein Kampf on library shelves at U.S. bases. He’s granted clemency to more than 1,600 people — including those who attacked the U.S. Capitol, disgraced former congressman George Santos, convicted reality TV stars Todd and Julie Chrisley, and crypto billionaire Changpeng Zhao. He is building an army of criminal loyalists.
He ignored the courts when they told him not to detain and disappear people without due process. He promised to release the Epstein file before the election — now he refuses, fueling speculation that his decades-long friendship with the world’s most notorious pedophile may be darker than anyone imagined. He’s placed himself in charge of the Kennedy Center, giving him final say over what counts as “art and culture” in Trump’s America. And he’s actively working with Republican allies to restrict mail-in voting and redraw congressional districts — locking in a permanent House majority that will never hold him accountable, no matter what he does.
The guardrails are gone. The Constitution is, for all practical purposes, irrelevant.
Trump is attacking every remaining check on his power. He’s targeting political enemies — James Comey, John Bolton, Letitia James — with lawsuits, public threats, and promises of retaliation. He’s still trying to use the courts to rewrite the history of the 2020 election. And when the judiciary does push back, he simply ignores their rulings. The courts have given him a long leash on executive authority — and he’s yanking it with both hands.
Meanwhile, Trump allies are quietly embedding themselves across the federal government. At DHS, CISA, and agencies once responsible for safeguarding elections, loyalty to Trump now matters more than rule of law. Election-deniers have been hired to oversee the very systems they tried to overturn. And in Congress, Republicans are pushing legislation to amend the Constitution so Trump can legally serve more than two terms.
This isn’t theoretical. This is the playbook.
Trump has already bent the media to his will, collecting millions from news outlets too afraid to fight defamation lawsuits — even ones based on obvious lies. He forced comedian Jimmy Kimmel off the air using the FCC, while broadcast groups like Sinclair stood by to do his bidding. The Pentagon has revoked press credentials for independent journalists and pushed credentialed media out of the building — making room for pro-Trump propagandists to take their place. He’s made it clear that justice, facts, and history itself are up for negotiation — as long as he controls the terms.
Steve Bannon, Trump’s former chief strategist, just confirmed to The Economist that a plan is already in place to keep Trump in office beyond 2028. Not running — serving. Bannon says it outright: “Trump will be president in 2028.” He calls Trump a “vehicle of divine providence,” insists the third term will be easier than the first two, and claims, “we’ll lay out what the plan is… but there’s a plan.”
He’s daring the country to stop them. And it’s clear: no one will.
Trump isn’t just testing democracy. He’s replacing it — step by step — with a system built around his authority and protected by permanent minority rule. That’s what the redistricting wave is about. That’s why loyalists are installed in election security roles. That’s why he continues to push the lie that the 2020 election was stolen — because if you can convince people the system is rigged, they’ll accept anything as long as their side wins.
And the most dangerous part? Millions of Americans are fine with it. Some are thrilled. And too many others have just stopped paying attention. A majority of Americans have always hated history, public policy, and the people who actually understand it. So they poured all their faith into Trump instead. Classic cult behavior — resentment packaged as identity, blind loyalty sold as patriotism.
So when Steve Bannon says Trump will get a third term — believe him. When Trump threatens prosecutors, bulldozes national landmarks, or ignores court rulings — believe him. When the constitutional limits disappear, and Congress becomes a rubber stamp — believe what you’re seeing.
The Constitution doesn’t protect us anymore. It only works if people in power choose to follow it. And right now, Donald Trump is unstoppable.
